Questions

Why is bigha different in every state?

Bigha is an old local unit. Its size changes from state to state – and sometimes even between districts. That is why the tool asks your state and lets you change the size.

How do I know the right bigha size for my village?

Ask the patwari / lekhpal or check your land papers (khatauni, jamabandi). Then type that size in “1 bigha =” and the tool uses it.

Which units are the same everywhere?

Acre (43,560 sq ft), hectare (2.471 acres), square foot, square yard (gaj), square metre, guntha (1,089 sq ft), cent / decimal (435.6 sq ft), kanal (5,445 sq ft) and marla (272.25 sq ft).

What is gaj?

Gaj means square yard. 1 gaj = 9 square feet.

Is this good for buying land?

Use it to understand the size. For buying or selling, always check the official land record and get the land measured.
