Questions

What does this check?

It checks if a GSTIN, PAN or Aadhaar number is written in the right format, and for GSTIN and Aadhaar it also checks the last check digit. Most typing mistakes are caught.

Does it tell me if the GST number is active?

No. It works without internet and does not look up government records. To see if a GSTIN is active and whose it is, use “Search Taxpayer” on the official GST portal.

What do the letters in a PAN mean?

The 4th letter tells the type: P = person, C = company, H = HUF, F = firm, T = trust, and so on. The 5th letter is the first letter of the surname or name.

What do the first two digits of GSTIN mean?

They are the state code, like 09 for Uttar Pradesh, 27 for Maharashtra, 07 for Delhi. The next 10 letters are the PAN of the business.

Is the number saved or sent anywhere?

No. The check happens on your phone and nothing is saved.
