Questions
Which tax year is this for?
Financial year 2026-27 (April 2026 to March 2027), called “tax year 2026-27” in the new Income-tax Act, 2025. The tax rates are the same as last year (2025-26), so you can use it for that year too.
Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax free?
In the new regime, yes, if all of it is normal income like salary or interest. Salaried people also get ₹75,000 standard deduction, so salary up to ₹12.75 lakh pays no tax. Just above ₹12 lakh, “marginal relief” keeps your tax small.
Old or new regime – which is better for me?
Fill in your savings (PF, PPF, LIC, health insurance, home loan interest, HRA). The tool works out both and shows which one takes less tax. Usually the new regime is better unless your deductions are large.
Which deductions count in the new regime?
Only the ₹75,000 standard deduction for salary or pension (and your employer’s NPS share, which this tool does not ask for). 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest on your own house count only in the old regime.
Is this my exact tax?
It is a close estimate for normal income. It does not cover capital gains on shares or property, lottery income, or business rules. For filing, check with a tax expert or the Income Tax website.
